Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) has re-opened one of its branches in Kilifi after a staff member tested positive for coronavirus last week, the lender has confirmed.
All staff members who came into contact with the affected person were asked to self-isolate for 14 days in line with government regulations.
The Central Bank approved the temporary closure of the branch and immediate cleaning and disinfection of the premises were undertaken.
With the clearance issued by the Kilifi County health officials, operations at the branch have resumed and a team assigned to substitute the staff in self-isolation.
“Our staff is providing the required assistance to authorities and public health officials in the matter,” said the lender in a statement.
The bank has further implemented the recommended precautionary measures at all its branches and offices. The measures include the installation of alcohol-based hand sanitisers at all its premises, provision of thermometers, gloves, safety masks, and the creation of designated isolation areas in case of incidents.
“We continue to encourage customers to use our alternative banking channels and cash management options such as online banking, mobile banking, and ATMs. We have implemented extra measures to ensure these services are available 24/7 and have waived charges on transfers from accounts to mobile wallets as well as fees for all PesaLink transactions,” said Chief Executive Nassim Devji.
This development comes even as banks continue to devise methods to keep business going while looking out for the health of staff and Kenyans at large.
CBK has already cut down its base lending rate to 7.25% while various banks have deferred collection dates on personal loans due.
Lenders are also availing business loans at cheaper rates than usual.
