Leading fast-moving consumer goods manufacturer, Bidco Africa, has been named among the best companies to work for in Kenya.
The Brighter Monday Best to Companies to Work For 2019 Report places Bidco among the top 50 best employers in the country, at number 31 overall.
Meanwhile, in the manufacturing category, Bidco Africa comes fourth after the East African Breweries (EABL), Coca-Cola and Unilever. It is then followed by Brookside Dairy Ltd, Nestle and Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC). Bidco has over 25,000 employees across its regional operations.
Overall, Safaricom is the best company to work for, according to the BritghterMonday survey, which evaluated employee satisfaction and happiness levels. Second in the report is EABL, followed by United Nations, Kenya Power, Kenya Revenue Authority, KenGen, Coca-Cola, Unilever Kenya and KCB, with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) closing the top ten rank.
According to BrighterMonday, 3,448 responses were used in the final analysis with data from two surveys. The external survey targeted the general public, while the internal survey focused on employees working at various companies in Kenya.
The majority of the respondents were aged between 25-35 and 18-24, live in Nairobi and hold a Bachelor’s degree.
“This report not only features the nation’s most prestigious companies from various industries, as voted by Kenyans but also serves as a staple benchmark for all prospective employees to assess the key characteristics that make companies top of mind for current and future employees,” says the report.
Respondents were asked to rank 10 extrinsic traits according to importance: Flexible Hours, Strong Relatable Company Values and Goals, Open and Effective Management, Health Programs, Transparent Performance Management, Mentoring & Coaching, Experimentational Environment, Family Support, Diversity Hiring and Training.
Leading manufacturer
Out of the 10 traits, Strong Relatable Company Values and Goals was the first, followed by Open and Effective Management, Flexible Hours, Transparent Performance Management and Health Programmes.
The top ranking for Bidco Africa comes after the company launched its Ksh20 billion Industrial Park in Ruiru, in July. The park hosts the company’s beverage and food processing factory which created 1,000 direct and 5,000 indirect jobs throughout the Bidco distribution chain.
Bidco Africa is the market leader in the edible oils and fats categories in Kenya and also manufactures hygiene and personal care products, including bar soaps and detergents.
