Banks dominate trading at the NSE

Some 14 million shares valued at Ksh428M were traded at the Nairobi Securities in 1,091 deals, down from 23 million shares valued at Ksh646M posted yesterday. The NSE 20 Share Index was up 8.54 points to stand at 3813.78, while the All Share Index (NASI) edged up 0.31 points to stand at 164.48. The NSE 25 Share Index was up 15.17 points to stand at 4305.08.

The Banking Sector traded shares worth Ksh206M and accounted for 48.25% of the day’s traded value. KCB Group actively moved 2.2M shares valued at Ksh93M at between Ksh42.00 and Ksh42.25. NIC Bank was up twenty-five cents to Ksh40.00 moved 812,000 shares valued at Ksh32.5M. Standard Chartered Bank moved 102,000 shares worth Ksh24.6M and closed at Ksh239.00.

In the the Commercial & Services Sector, shares worth Ksh5.8M were transacted and represented
1.36% of the day’s traded value. Nation Media Group remained unchanged at Ksh112.00 and moved 27,000 shares valued at Ksh3M.

The Energy & Petroleum Sector had shares worth Ksh14M transacted and represented 3.28% of the day’s traded value. KenolKobil moved 547,000 shares valued at Kes.9M at between Ksh16.50 and Ksh16.70.

The Insurance Sector had shares worth Ksh5M transacted and represented 1.21% of the day’s traded value. Britam Holdings was up 1.44% to Ksh14.00 moved 266,000 shares worth Ksh3.7M.

The Manufacturing & Allied Sector had shares worth Ksh3.6M transacted and represented 0.84% of the day’s traded value. East African Breweries closed 1.21% higher to Ksh249.00 moving 4,000 shares valued at Ksh1.2M.

In telecommunication, Safaricom saw 7.3M shares valued at Ksh185M transacted at between Ksh25.25 and Ksh25.50; this represented 43.35% of the day’s traded value.
