Banks most active as NSE rebounds

The Nairobi Securities Exchange opened the week with a total of 10 million shares valued at Ksh291M, down from 10.6 Million shares valued at Ksh347M posted on Friday. The market value (capitalization) settled at Ksh2.345 trillion compared to Ksh2.342 trillion posted on Friday, representing Ksh3 billion or 0.15% increase in market value.

The NSE indices opened the week on a positive note. The NSE 20 Share Index was up 26.53 points to stand at 3674.84. All Share Index (NASI) ended 0.24 points higher to stand at 160.11, while NSE 25 Share Index was up 11.01 points to stand at 4155.83.

The Banking Sector had shares worth Ksh182 million transacted and accounted for 62.52% of the day’s traded value. KCB Group was the day’s biggest mover with 3 million shares valued at Ksh116M changing hands at between Ksh37.75 and Ksh38.75. Equity Group Holdings up twenty-five cents to Ksh36.50 moved 786,000 shares valued at Ksh28.7M. Co-op Bank moved 1.7M shares worth Ksh28M and closed at Ksh16.00.

The Commercial & Services Sector had shares worth Ksh2.6M transacted and represented 0.90% of the day’s traded value. Kenya Airways recorded a 5.94% gain to close at Ksh5.35 with shares worth Ksh2 million transacted.

The Energy & Petroleum had shares worth Ksh3.9M transacted and represented 1.36% of the day’s traded value. KenGen moved 303,000 shares valued at Ksh2.6M and closed at Ksh8.70.

The Insurance Sector had shares worth Ksh8.3M transacted and represented 2.87% of the day’s traded value. Kenya-Re moved 214,000 shares worth Ksh4.3M at between Ksh19.75 and Ksh21.50.

The Manufacturing & Allied Sector had shares worth Ksh36.7M transacted and represented 12.57% of the day’s traded value. E.A Breweries traded 141,000 shares valued at Ksh34.7M at a fairly stable price of Ksh245.00. In telecommunication, Safaricom had 2 million shares valued at Ksh51.5M transacted at between Ksh25.00 and Ksh25.50.
