A Toyota Prado together with its six occupants that had been taken hostage by suspected Al Shabaab militants at Milihoi area on the Lamu-Mpeketoni highway, has been recovered by Kenya Defense Forces.
Police say the vehicle was carrying Public Works Principal Secretary Maryam Elmaawy, who had just completed a meeting with LAPSSET stakeholders in Lamu and was heading to Witu to visit families who fled their homes due to insecurity caused Alshabaab attacks.

The PS was rescued by KDF but she is said to have suffered injuries, including gunshots, while a burnt body believed to be the driver’s was also recovered. Two police officers guarding the PS were also reportedly killed.
Two other Toyota Probox vehicles that had initially been held were released while the Prado was driven into the Boni forest by the militants who amounted to more than 30 according to witnesses.
The incident took place today Thursday at around 3pm.
In a similar incident, a lorry conductor has been taken hostage by suspected Al Shabaab militants at Milihoi. They were numbering more than 20, according to the lorry driver who was allowed to proceed. The militants took him inside the Boni forest.
