Bill Arocho, the little-known friend of President Uhuru Kenyatta, recounted the day he accompanied the president to Turkana, which turned out to be thought-provoking experience. The head of state had been confined in a posh hotel in the area, but the facility did not have a shower.
Speaking to The Nairobian, a publication of Standard Group, Mr Arocho said he thought the lack of a shower would bother Uhuru. To his shock, however, the president took it in stride.
According to Mr Arocho, the president picked a bucket, filled it with water and made his way to the bathroom situated outside the hotel rooms. “We were in the best hotel in Turkana but it had no shower. The bathrooms were outside and to take a bath, one had to use a bucket. I woke up early because I had to see it with my own eyes,” Mr Arocho recalled. “As if it is something he was used to, he picked up his bucket of water and headed to the bathroom.”
However, it is not clear how this happened given the elaborate planning that is always undertaken by the president’s team regarding his official tours.

Mr Arocho is one of the president’s closes allies and has also been serving as one of his bouncers. He says Uhuru understands the plight of Kenyans Uhuru is ever in constant communication with those so close to him. According to Arocho, Uhuru makes calls, returns the unanswered ones, and also replies to WhatsApp chats. The bouncers further told the revealed that Uhuru is ever in touch with the reality on the ground, though his handlers at times mislead him.
“He is very aware of the challenges Kenyans face. He knows it from my own experiences because he has helped me when my father was extremely sick,” stated Mr Arocho. Mr Arocho’s friendship with the head of state dates back to the 90s. He came to the limelight immediately after Uhuru secured his first term.

Arocho is almost in every function attended by the president in the country. In rallies, he is always at the front clearing the way and ensuring no one comes close to the president’s car. In most instances, he is pictured breaking a sweat for Uhuru.
When not busy protecting him, he is having a chat with the president and enjoying quality time together. In the run-up to the 2017 general election, Uhuru awarded him a nomination slot in the Nairobi County Assembly via the Jubilee party. His name was among those forwarded for consideration.
