A fire broke out in Githurai 45 timber and furniture yard on Monday morning, destroying properties worth millions of shillings.

Red Cross Society of Kenya has dispatched a response team to the scene along Thika road.

The cause of the fire that is claimed to have started at 4 am is yet to be established.

According to witnesses, the fire started in a furniture shop and quickly spread to other stalls in the market.

At 8 am firefighters from Nairobi and Kiambu counties as well as the Kenya army joined efforts to put out the fire.

Traders are counting millions of loses, but some were able to salvage a few items from their shops.
