akamega based side Green Commandos say they have been hit by a financial crisis that has greatly contributed to their poor form this season.
According to Commandos’ coach Eliud Omukiya, lack of funds at the club has majorly affected the players attributing to the team’s prolonged run of poor form. He revealed so following a home defeat to St.Joseph’s on Sunday.
“The current situation at the team is quite worrying. There is no motivation among the playing unit and as a coach, it is difficult to bring the best out of the players who are not settled, with some unable to attend training due to lack of transport,” Omukuyia pointed out.
The Green Commandos, who are currently second last in the FKF National Super League with relegation looming large, made a good recruitment enough to make them perform better prior to the season, revealed Omukiya.
Kakamega High School Principal Gerald Orina, whose students form the backbone of the Green Commandos, also commented on the issue saying that it has become difficult to meet day to day expenses of the team.
“We are the sponsors of the team but we can’t only rely on school budget which is strictly meant for the learning students. However, we have also made some contacts and made a lot of appeals to well-wishers to come and support the team,” Orina commented.
