The Alliance High School Old Boys Club in collaboration with the Alliance High School on Saturday hosted the inaugural edition of the Alliance Classic Run. The run, which featured 5km, 10km, 15km and 20km races was attended by hundreds of recreational runners: current students, alumni, parents and friends of the school.

“We had a fabulous day. The turnout by the alumni was encouraging, and their desire to support the event was clear. Equally impressive was the support by friends of the Alliance High School – individuals and institutional”, said Maurice Nduranu, the Chairman of the Old Boys Club.

“ All came out strongly to support the run and the cause it seeks to support: the Alliance High School Endowment Fund. I am very grateful to I&M Bank Kenya, Minet Kenya Insurance Brokers Limited, Centum Investments Company, PCEA Kikuyu Hospital, The Karen Hospital and of course the AHS for the support that they all gave to the event,” added Nduranu.

Alliance High School Principal William Mwangi flagged off the inaugural run from the school’s grounds. The routes took the runners through Ondiri, Kikuyu, Thogoto, Gikambura and Mai-ai-hii neighbourhoods.

The school’s administration has committed to supporting the second edition of the Alliance Classic Run, tentatively slated for May 2019.

The Alliance Classic Run is a charity run and walk event dedicated to raising funds for the Alliance High School Endowment Fund Trust (AHSEFT).

AHSEFT was created by the Alliance High School Old Boys Club to mobilise financial resources to build and manage endowment funds to fund bursaries to be awarded to students in need admitted to the school and to fund infrastructure maintenance and expansion.

At least 30% of the students at Alliance High (a population of 1,600) are in need of financial assistance. The most sustainable way to address this need is to set up endowment funds that provide permanent income earning assets, from whose income bursaries will be awarded.

The school also needs an investment in infrastructure renewal and update of at least Ksh 2 billion in the near to medium term to deliver a safe, practical and comfortable environment for its students and staff.

The AHSEFT targets to raise at least KSh 5 billion under the endowment funds, between now and 2026, the year the Alliance High School marks its centenary, to fund these scholarship and infrastructure needs.
