Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has asked city residents to help him choose his deputy following the January resignation of Polycarp Igathe, who incidentally still features in his shortlist of 22 men and women.

Responding to suggestions by citizens on who is best suited for the coveted job, Sonko took to Facebook to list those who top the charts and is now waiting for the public to give him an option.

Among those who feature in the list in Citizen TV news anchor Anne Kiguta, who is ranked at number one in the shortlist. Lawyer Miguna Miguna features next  followed by educationist Janet Ouko and multi-award winning insurance agent Agnes Kagure Kariuki, who has been trending on social media in recent days as Kenyans including prominent lawyer Donald Kipkorir vouched for her to replace Igathe.

Others include State House Deputy Chief of Staff Njee Kariuki, former Housing assistant minister Margaret Kariuki, former Dagoretti North MP Dennis Waweru, Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga, former Nairobi Town Clerk John Gakuo, Dyer and Blair chairman Jimna Mbaru, former Kenya Tourist Board chairman Raymond Matiba and lawyer Karen Nyamu, who was among those eyeing the Nairobi Women’s Representative seat in last year’s election.

Sonko has also included former Education Permanent Secretary James ole Kiyiapi, Nairobi Women’s Representative Esther Passaris, former Infrastructure Permanent Secretary Irungu Nyakera, businesswoman Susan Matiba, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Private Secretary Jomo Gecaga, State House Deputy Comptroller George Kariuki, former Nairobi Women’s Representative Rachel Shebesh and East African Legislative Assembly member Simon Mbugua.

Interestingly, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s brother Muhoho Kenyatta, who in any case is unlikely to take up the job, features at number 20 on the list of 22.

It is still not clear why Sonko listed Kiguta at the top despite most social media enthusiastic vouching K for Kagure, who recently won another award to add to another feather in her hat.
