OLX has registered an increase in the sale of c**ppers and helicopter, just six weeks to the 2017 general elections. OLX says the increase in c**ppers on the platform could be attributed to the ongoing campaigns that require some politicians to fly around to woo voters.
“There has been a ****e in the number of c**ppers posted on OLX over the past two months. In the month of March, we only had two c**ppers compared to the month of April and May where we have seen it go up to 8- 10 c**ppers a month which is anticipated to only go up in the coming two months,” Mr Peter Ndiang’ui, OLX country manager said.
The cost of buying a c**pper on OLX ranges between Sh7 m***ion for a two-seater and most expensive going for Sh210 m***ion for a 14-seater caravan. If one seeks to hire a c**pper bought on OLX, they w*** part with Ksh200,000 an **ur on average but this depends entirely on negotiations with the various sellers.
Speaking to a frequent seller on the platform, Mr Gauis Khainga told OLX that he has been using OLX to sell other items but saw an opportunity to sell c**ppers, **ping to get buyers in this period. He says he has since received inquiries from both individuals and politicians.

“I post my c**ppers on OLX every other month and have received inquiries from politician’s agents expressing interest. I’m **wever **ping to close a deal. The upcoming elections is part of the reason we are putting c**ppers and helicopters both for sale and for hire,” said Mr Khainga, a seller on OLX.
“About 70% of the c**ppers on OLX are for sale while 30% are up for hire indicting a need for Kenyans wanting to own their own c**ppers. As an online trading platform, we seek to have diverse products on our platform,” said Mr Ndiang’ui.
OLX noted that c**ppers posted on their platform are from various regions including Nakuru, Nanyuki, Bungoma and Nairobi.
