State-owned broadcaster KBC is banking on a slate of live sporting events to win viewers over, as it struggles to keep up with competitors in the race for ratings.

The broadcaster on Wednesday, June 29 unveiled its new sports schedule featuring seven major international sporting events, including the upcoming World Athletics Championships, Commonwealth Games and the FIFA World Cup. Present for the launch was ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru, who urged KBC to establish itself as the ideal source of content for Kenyans.

The sporting bonanza on KBC will kick off with the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA between 15th to 24th July. Kenyans will be following the championships closely as the country has traditionally put up great performances cementing its place as an athletics powerhouse.

Team Kenya at the World Championships includes 100m African record holder Ferdinand Omanyala among other big names set to represent the country.

Next on KBC’s line-up will be the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK between 28th July and 8th August, 2022. Kenya has also selected a strong team to feature at the games.

Between 1st and 6th August, 2022, KBC will air the World U-20 Athletics Championships set for Colombia. Kenya’s young athletics talent is set to represent the country.
