10 people were arrested during the Saba Saba protests in Nairobi on Monday as authorities reported a largely peaceful day marked by the absence of fatalities, injuries or major criminal incidents.

According to an official update, no deaths or injuries were recorded during the demonstrations. Police also reported no cases of looting or theft, despite heightened security deployed across the city.

The arrests were made in two areas, with six suspects apprehended in Pangani and four within Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD), bringing the total number of arrests to 10.

“The conduct of the public today has reaffirmed that Kenya remains a nation guided by order, unity, and mutual respect. We apprehended only 10 people—six in the Pangani area and four within the Central Police Station. They will be charged,” Nairobi Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud said.

Authorities said all the suspects are expected to be arraigned in court on Tuesday.

The update comes after concerns over possible violence during the annual Saba Saba commemorations, which have in previous years been accompanied by protests and clashes in parts of the country.

Security agencies maintained a heavy presence across key areas of the capital throughout the day as they monitored the demonstrations and enforced public order.

No further details were immediately provided on the offences for which the suspects were arrested.
