The US Embassy in Nairobi has warned of fresh terrorist acts in Nairobi, Naivasha, Nanyuki and coastal regions targeting westerners and urged them to continue to exercise heightened caution.

Credible information indicates Westerners may be targeted by extremists in Nairobi, Naivasha, Nanyuki, and coastal areas of Kenya. The U.S. Embassy reminds the public of the continued need for heightened vigilance throughout Kenya, especially in public spaces such as shopping malls, hotels, and places of worship,” the mission said in a security alert to US citizens.

It asked them to be aware of their surroundings, and report suspicious activity to authorities immediately, carefully consider visiting locations frequented by tourists/Westerners, monitor local media, have travel documents up to date and easily accessible and review their personal security plans.

This is the second time the embassy is issuing an alert following the 14 Riverside Drive terrorist attack that killed 21 people last month.
