At least two people are feared dead and several others injured in a tragic morning crash near Talanta Stadium on Ngong Road, involving a royal blue Toyota Mark X.
A lady who was waiting for a matatu and a front-seat passenger in the vehicle reportedly died at the scene, while two other passengers were injured and rushed to the hospital, reflecting the severe impact of the crash. The driver reportedly survived
Eyewitnesses say the driver may have been intoxicated, though the claim has not been independently verified by authorities.
Following the incident, angry boda boda riders at the scene reportedly set the vehicle on fire. Witnesses said the accident occurred at around 7:25 a.m. when the vehicle, travelling from the Ngong direction, lost control, hit the pavement, and veered off the road.
Police reportedly recovered two bottles of alcohol from the wreckage, raising suspicions that the driver may have been under the influence.
This comes just hours after the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) carried out a safety compliance check last night along the Southern Bypass, leading to the detention of 13 vehicles.
Driving under the influence of alcohol and operating with expired licenses were among the major infractions observed by the agency.
NTSA says most of the impounded motor vehicles had expired inspection stickers, while many were operating without insurance. Some of the vehicles flagged during the crackdown also had broken headlights and cracked windscreens, highlighting a worrying trend of motorists neglecting basic road safety.
