Zee Entertainment Africa, a continental media operator reaching 176 million viewers daily across 52 countries and holding the number one television position in Nigeria and Zambia, has quietly pulled off one of Kenya’s most significant broadcasting stories in recent memory.
Its free-to-air drama channel, Zee Dunia, launched just over a year ago with no subscription fee and no established audience base, has entered the Top 10 most-watched television stations in a market of more than 400 active channels and done so in four months.
According to the Ipsos Kenya Audience Tracker (IKAT) Q1 2026 survey, Zee Dunia now ranks third in Nairobi in terms of viewership after Citizen TV and NTV respectively. Zee Dunia’s average daily viewership notably grew from 95,664 in December 2025 to 183,288 in March 2026, a 91% increase sustained consistently month on month, not a single-quarter spike.
Zee Entertainment Africa, a subsidiary of Indian media conglomerate Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited, launched Zee Dunia in March 2025 as its first free-to-air channel in Africa. The company operates 10 channels across 52 countries in Africa, reaching 43 million households and 176 million viewers daily. In Kenya, its portfolio includes Zee World on DStv and StarTimes, and Zee TV and Zee Cinema targeting the South Asian diaspora.

Ipsos Kenya described the Zee Media network, which includes Zee Dunia and its sibling channel Zee World, as the fastest-growing television network in Kenya. Combined, the two channels rank 7th nationally by weekly reach, with Ipsos data confirming the channels attract distinct, non-overlapping audiences.
AUDIENCE PROFILE
The Ipsos survey, which samples 3,000 respondents aged 15 and above across all counties, found Zee Dunia’s growth most pronounced among viewers aged 15 to 34 in urban areas, particularly in Nairobi, the Lake region, Central Kenya and Upper Eastern Kenya. The channel also recorded consistently strong viewership among women aged 25 to 34. The channel’s ratings build through the day from mid-morning and peak during evening prime-time, with Ipsos placing it within the first tier of general-entertainment channels nationally.
DIGITAL REACH
Zee Dunia’s television audience growth has been accompanied by expansion online. The channel’s YouTube platform reached 183,000 subscribers by March 2026, with combined social media followings across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube exceeding 1.1 million year-to-date.
“Kenya’s audiences have told us clearly what they want, premium storytelling, available to everyone, on their terms. Zee Dunia’s growth is not an accident; it is the result of a deliberate decision to invest in this market at scale and back it with content that earns loyalty. We are not here to be a niche player. We are here to compete at the top of this market, and the Ipsos data confirms we are doing exactly that.” Seema Sarkar Manji, Business Head, Kenya, Zee Entertainment Africa.
The company holds the No.1 television audience position in Nigeria and Zambia, and a top-three ranking in South Africa, according to company-provided figures.
