At least 20 top managers at City Hall have been questioned and recorded their statements in an ongoing probe into claims of corruption.

The officials include those from chief cashier’s office, finance department, head of treasury, head of revenue, second in charge of revenue, in-charge of bank reconciliations and assistant cashier.

Others are from daily parking, seasonal parking, parking penalties, single business permit, house rents, land rates, liquor licence, market rents, miscellaneous, E-Construction, Fire, Health, advertisement and regularisation.

They were grilled by a team appointed to investigate claims of fraud at City Hall. The team camped in various departments at City Hall perusing through documents as they sought for evidence.

Records at City Hall indicate that about Ksh14 million is collected daily from 14 streams while revenue from the other 122 cannot be verified as they still use manual receipts.

The 14 streams include daily parking, seasonal parking, parking penalties, single business permit, house rents, land rates, liquor licence, market rents, miscellaneous, E-Construction, Fire, Health, advertisement and regularisation.

Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko said there is a steady increase in revenue collection in the past week with the highest hitting Ksh38 million on Monday and Ksh37 million on Tuesday due to measures taken.

Last week, seven employees were arrested and presented in court over claims of corruption. This was after Sonko found Ksh7 million in the cash office unbanked. The seven are likely to be charged with abuse of office as being employees of the county government; they abused the authority by failing to bank the daily collection on August 22.
