Share trading up as investor appetite grows

Turnover at the Nairobi Securities Exchange today rose to Ksh453M from the previous session’s Ksh349M, while the number of shares traded jumped to 14.9M against 10M posted yesterday, as investors showed more appetite for shares on different counters.

This lifted the NSE 20 share Index 0.97 points to stand at 3313.81, as well as the All Share Index (NASI) up 0.85 points to close the day at 173.23. The NSE 25 Share index also up 20.60 points to stand at 4487.12

The Banking Sector had shares worth Ksh183M transacted, which accounted for 40.48% of the day’s traded value. Equity Group Holdings was the most actively traded counter in this sector with 2.2M shares realized, valued at Ksh111M traded at a stable price of Ksh49.75. KCB Group remained unchanged at Ksh47.50 moved 810,000 shares valued at Ksh38.7M. Barclays Bank had 638,000 shares valued at Ksh7.3M and closed the day at Ksh11.55.

The Construction & Allied Sector had shares worth Ksh3.6M traded & accounted for 0.8% of the day’s turnover. Bamburi Cement remained stable at Ksh178.00 for 14,300 shares valued at Ksh2.5M. ARM down 1.1% to Ksh4.45 moved 226,000 shares valued at Ksh1.0M.

The Energy and Petroleum Sector had shares worth Ksh21.4M traded & accounted for 4.72% of the day’s turnover. Kenya Power actively moved 1.4M shares valued at Ksh9.1M at between Ksh6.10 and Ksh6.50.

The Insurance Sector had shares worth Ksh6.1M traded & accounted for 1.36% of the day’s turnover. Kenya Re had 249,000 shares traded valued at Ksh4.1M. CIC gained 5.2% to Ksh5.05 had 324,000 shares valued at Ksh1.6M.

The Manufacturing & Allied Sector had shares worth Ksh57.8M transacted, which represented 12.7% of the day’s traded value. E.A Breweries saw 211,000 shares valued at Ksh48.M changing hands at between Ksh221.00 and Ksh240.00.

In telecommunications, Safaricom had 5.9M shares valued at Ksh171.8M changing hands at between Ksh28.50 and Ksh29.00, this represented 37.88% of the day’s traded value.
