Raila Odinga Junior has broken his silence over a viral video showing him greeting residents through a fence in Kilgoris, saying the incident did not take place at President William Ruto’s private residence as suggested by some social media users.

In a statement issued on Monday, Raila Junior said the interaction occurred at the public airstrip in Kilgoris after he alighted from an aircraft.

“I have seen the video and the comments circulating about me greeting wananchi through a fence,” he said.

“For clarity: this was not at the President’s private home. It took place at the public airstrip in Kilgoris.”

The businessman explained that a group of residents who recognised him waved and asked to greet him, prompting the interaction captured in the circulating video.

“As I alighted from the aircraft, a group of wananchi who recognised me waved me over and asked to greet me. The fence is a standard safety barrier that protects the landing area for aircraft,” he said.

He added that he responded in the normal manner one would greet members of the public.

“I responded to their greeting in the normal way one does with members of the public,” he said.

The video has circulated widely online in recent days, attracting speculation about where the interaction took place and whether it was connected to a visit to the President’s residence.

Raila Junior said he was aware of the public interest generated by the footage and welcomed the attention.

“On a lighter note, I am pleased by the rigor and keen interest with which netizens follow my journey. I shall endeavour to update you more frequently,” he said.

The statement seeks to clarify the circumstances surrounding the viral clip and dispel claims that the encounter happened at State House or the President’s private home.
