Radio 47 Programme Line-Up Features Big Names In Media

The management, led by Mount Kenya University (MKU) chairman and founder, Prof Simon Gicharu, is hoping to make an impact in radio.

Radio 47, set to launch on Monday, 13 March, 2023, is set to rival big names in the media industry. The radio station is a sister company to TV 47 owned by Cape Media Company. The proprietor is understood to have acquired radio frequencies from a private investor who disposed of them after the elections.

The management, led by Mount Kenya University (MKU) chairman and founder, Prof Simon Gicharu, is putting final touches to launch plans including the programme line-up.

Here’s the programme line-up for the new station:-

Nuru 47

Nuru 47 will be the first programme of the day, running between 4 am and 6 am. The programme will be run by award-winning gospel presenter Eva Mwalili alias Mama Tafifa. It will have four segments namely Ushuhuda, Tamkiwa Baraka, Neno, and Pasta Wako. “This show targets to daily inspire listeners as they start their day,” Radio 47 says.

Breakfast 47

The programme, running between 6 am and 10 am, will be handled by Emmanuel Mwashumbe and Mkamburi Chigogo. Segmented into four thematic areas namely Kwa Chief, Gostika, Gumzo 47, and Story Yangu, the breakfast show will focus on news, big discussions, fun and games.

“A combination of a charmingly fun and authoritative alpha male with antiquated ideas with a sassy, unconventional fenale with a devil may care attitude is definitely a recipe for a very interesting breakfast menu. A very entertaining fast paced breakfast show with all the best ingredients including news, big discussions, fun and games and most importantly great laughs!” the station describes the show.

Mchikicho

The mid-morning show which will air between 10 am and 1 pm will be handled by Mwanaisha Chidzuga. Radio 47 describes Chidzuga as a sultry and iron lady rolled into one. “Playful and serious, soft and stern, political wife and politician. Malkia Chidzuga is here to give you the best mix of entertainment as you go through your workday,” Radio 47 says.

The show will have segments such as Mheshimiwa’s Corner, Mwanamke Mambo, Mautamu Tamu, and Msemo wa Leso.

Baze 47

Run by Manucho The Young Turk between 1pm and 3pm, the programme targets the young and young at heart.

The show is about entertainment, celebrities, what’s trending, the next big thing and how to improve lives.

Maskani

The drive show running between 3 pm and 7 pm will have the voices of Billy Miya and Mbaruk Mwalimu.

“Staid, sober and responsible meets loose canon imp, outspoken and opinionated gives us an unmissable crazy fun show with great humour, without missing out on some sober insights,” Radio 47 describes the duo.

Chemba

Run by Dr Ofweneke, the show will focus more on relationship issues with segments such as ukiachwa Achika, Noma Yangu, Mwanamume Kamili ni… and Big Up!

Weekend Shows

Bahari ya Elimu

Airing on Saturday between 7 am and 11 am, the programme will be run by Ali Hassan Kaluleni, perceived by many as an excellent educationist and Swahili aficionado with proven superiority as a broadcaster.

The show will be very interactive, educational and entertaining targeting students, teachers, and institutions.

Sato Vibe

Runs every Saturday between 11 am and 3 pm.

Mkamburi Chigogo will handle the programme with a focus on music and discussions on trending topics.

Saturday Night Live

The show, airing between 7 pm to midnight, will be a DJ-driven show with clubbing banter and spoken word. It will be run by Billy Miya.

Radio 47 Jumapili

Run by Eva Mwalili on Sunday between 5 am and 10 am, the gospel show intends to inspire listeners as they start their Sunday.

Between 10 am to 4 pm, the radio station will run a gospel music show dubbed Gospel automation.

Kazi za Kale

Between 4 pm to 6 pm on Sundays, Eric Wambugu will run another show focusing on good old music.

Kikao cha hoja

Kikao cha Hoja is a weekly 60-minute political talk show with policymakers, government representatives and politicians. It will be run by Liz Mutuku.
