Pangani Girls’ Juliet Otieno KCSE 2018’s top candidate

Juliet Otieno from Pangani Girls is the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2018’s top candidate having scored a straight A and a performance index of 87.64%.

While announcing the results at the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) headquarters on Dennis Pritt Road on Friday, Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed said that Juliet beat some 660,203 other students to clinch the top spot in this year’s examinations.

Ms Otieno beat Maseno School’s Kaluna James who emerged second and Light Academy’s Edwin Otieno Ouko who emerged third.

“Perfomance improved greatly this year with 315 students scoring straight As compared to the 142 students who scored straight As in 2017,” said CS Amina while releasing the results.

Some 90,377 students attained minimum university requirement having scored C+ and above, an increase from the 70,073 who secured a place in public universities in 2017.

CS Amina and Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) CEO George Magoha said that this year’s examination did not leak.

However the results of 100,000 students were cancelled while 5 teachers have been interdicted for engaging in examination malpractices.

The Education Cabinet Secretary also revealed that 6 serial examination cartels have been arrested after being in the run for six years while four of them have been charged in various courts .
