The government has commissioned a new housing project at the National Police College, Embakasi ‘A’ Campus, in a move aimed at improving the welfare and living conditions of police officers.

In a statement, Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo said the project, officially commissioned by President William Ruto in December 2025, marks a major milestone in the government’s efforts to reform the National Police Service (NPS).

“The housing project at the National Police College, Embakasi ‘A’ Campus, marks a major milestone in the Government’s ongoing commitment to transform the welfare of our security officers,” Omollo said.

He noted that the modern housing facility is part of broader reforms within the NPS designed to boost morale, dignity and productivity among officers by improving both their living and working conditions.

“For far too long, many police officers have been forced to live in makeshift tin houses, conditions unbefitting the men and women who put their lives on the line daily to safeguard the safety and security of others,” Omollo said.

According to the PS, the new housing project seeks to address these long-standing challenges by providing officers with decent, secure and dignified accommodation. He said the initiative restores dignity to officers, strengthens their sense of value and belonging, and underscores the government’s commitment to placing officer welfare at the centre of police reforms.

“This project restores dignity to our officers, strengthens their sense of value and belonging and reinforces the Government’s resolve to place officer welfare at the heart of police reforms,” Omollo said.

Omollo emphasised that investing in the well-being of security officers is critical to effective policing and public safety. “A motivated, well-cared-for police service is essential to effective law enforcement and a safer nation for all,” he said.

The housing project forms part of a wider government strategy to modernise the National Police Service through infrastructure development, institutional reforms and improved welfare, as authorities seek to enhance professionalism, accountability and service delivery across the security sector.
