Ndiang’ui Kinyagia, the blogger and activist who has been missing from his house in Kinoo, Kiambu County has resurfaced.
The blogger resurfaced at the Milimani Law Courts on July 3, 2025, after going into hiding since June 22, 2025, according to his lawyer Wahome Thuku.
“Ndiangui has indicated that he is ready and willing to present himself to the DCI and to be presented before any court of law when his safety and security are guaranteed. We have therefore advised him to present himself before the High Court at Milimani Law Courts today,” Thuku said on Thursday, July 3, 2025.
Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin had publicly stated that Kinyagia was a person of interest over his online posts and that officers who visited his home found him absent, claiming they had no knowledge of his whereabouts.
However, Justice Mwita dismissed this explanation as “pure drama,” insisting that “no one can simply vanish into thin air without the police knowing.”
“I want Ndiang’ui Kinyagia in court, whether dead or alive. I’m also speaking to these people (Kanja and Amin), there is no way a Kenyan would get out of his boat and vanish from this world without a trace; it is not humanly possible. Let’s stop playing drama and stick to what our Constitution speaks to,” Mwita, who has now been accused of judicial activism, said.
The Judge emphasised the seriousness of the matter, said the focus should be on locating the blogger rather than indulging in theatrics.
“All we want is this Kenyan; where is he? Nothing more. We are not interested in drama or anything; we have a human being missing,” he said.
The revelations that Ndiangui had been hiding have been condemned as an act of dishnesty for misleading the nation into believing he had been abducted.
“What Ndiangui Kinyagia has done is wrong, and criminal. An entire country was fighting for his release, and praying for his safety thinking he was abducted but all this time he was in hiding! Shame on him, and his family for misleading an entire nation,” activist Boniface Mwangi stated.
The case will be heard on July 18 and 24, 2025. Justice Mwita further ordered that the activist should not be arrested by the police.
“I think the fairest thing to do is to allow the family and you, the lawyer, to have a conversation and then decide how to proceed. My intention this morning was to have Ndiangui Kinyagia and to present him to Kenyans alive and I have. Anything else comes after,” the judge stated.
“The family is granted time to have the petitioner with them and take him to the hospital for medical attention. This matter will be heard on the 18th and 24th of July, at 10.30 am both days inclusive,” Mwita ordered.
