Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has reportedly purchased Kenya’s first Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold, a limited-edition smartphone priced at KSh 609,000 (around USD 5,300). Only 500 units of the device were produced worldwide, underscoring its exclusivity.
The tri-fold device represents the next evolution in foldable smartphones, expanding beyond single-fold models to a multi-panel screen that opens to a tablet-like display. Features include flexible AMOLED display technology, advanced hinge mechanisms, high-end processors, premium cameras, and multitasking capabilities.

Foldable smartphones have become a growing segment for manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics, driven by demand for larger screens without sacrificing portability. Limited production and cutting-edge technology contribute to the devices’ high price points.

Sonko, known for his public profile and affinity for luxury gadgets, shared details of the purchase online. The acquisition follows his history of securing early access to premium devices, often at above-market prices. The Galaxy Z TriFold adds to his collection of high-end electronics and remains one of the rarest smartphones globally.
