Malawian player receives chicken as man of the match award

Social media was amazed after photos of a Malawian league player receiving a chicken as a man of the match award went round.

Nyasa Big Bullets’ striker Hassan Kajoke was given a chicken for his exemplary performance in their 5-0 win over Karonge United TNM Super League match on Sunday at Kamuzu Stadium. Kajoke scored a brace and as he help his side run over Karonge United in the Malawian league clash.

The award was earlier said to have been given by a sponsor. However, because the photo attracted a lot of comments on social media the Malawian league website came out to say that the chicken was given to Kajoke by a fan who was impressed by his performance in the match.

The club, however, was did not have anything to hide as they posted the photo of Kajoke receiving the chicken on their Facebook page. It is this post that attracted social media comments.

The anonymous fan asked to give out the gift, carrying a cardboard box that read “Kajoke BB”. The hen was colored red, as a tradition of gifts in the Premier League. Nyasa Big Bullets are placed fifth on the Malawian league table.

In a top league like Malawian TNM Super League, a man of the match award is to be taken to a high consideration. In Kenya for instance, the Kenya Premier League (KPL) player of the month receives a television set and a monetary award.

Kenyans too have reacted to the photo on social media.
