KPLC: 4 Counties to Face Temporary Blackouts Friday

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) is notifying customers in four counties about temporary blackouts that will take place today, Friday, September 14, 2024, when its technicians will be conducting scheduled power maintenance on local electricity distribution system networks in their areas.

According to KPLC, business and residential customers in Nairobi City County, Nyeri County, Homa Bay County, and Kakamega County will experience loss of electrical power for a specific period of time during the day until 5:00 PM when it will be restored;

In Nairobi, Kakamega and Homa Bay counties, the temporary blackouts will occur from 9:00 AM and start an hour earlier at 8:00 AM in Nyeri County.

The areas that will be affected in Nairobi are Runda Mumwe Estate, a part of Eliud Mathu Road, Pan Africa Insurance, Eagle Park, Benin Drive and places around Afana Road.

In Kakamega, they are Shianda KMTC, Shianda Market, Ekero, Malakha, Shitoto, Lubinu, Amatia and Maraba.

Moving on, Wachara, Rachar, Mbani, Ranen Mikumi, Nyarandi, Nyamogo and Kalamindi are the areas that will be hit by the temporary disruption in the supply of electricity in Homa Bay County.

Lastly, it is Kirigu C/Fact, Gatina C/Fact, Safaricom and Airtel Boosters, Gakuyu Secondary School, Gatina Village, Mukangu Dispensary, Mukangu Market, Mukangu C/Fact and Mukangu Secondary School in Nyeri County.

The interruptions of electricity supply are necessary for maintaining critical power infrastructure to ensure that the residents of the mentioned areas get a reliable electricity supply, says KPLC.

While the utility’s technicians will be working on the lines, they are urging affected customers to be patient and to treat all electrical installations as live for the full duration of the interruption.
