New League entrant Kisumu All-Stars are the club with the most player signings ahead of their first Kenya Premier League campaign.
The players were unveiled by Kisumu County Minister of Sports Achie Ojany Alai on Tuesday 27th August at the Kisumu County Headquarters. The lake-side club has signed 13 new players as they look to sharpen their skills ahead of the new season.
It is the first time that the Blue Eagles will be playing in the Kenyan Premier League. Last Season, All-Stars impressed in the National Super League after finishing as the league’s runners up, a spot behind Wazito FC.
Wazito FC and Kisumu All-Stars are the new entrants in the 2019/20 Kenya Premier League season. The two also lead the charts in the number of players signings with the Blue Eagles signing 13 players while Wazito signed 9 new players.
All Stars have upgraded all the positions in the team as they have signed one goalkeeper, five defenders, five midfielders and two strikers. Wazito, on the other hand, have concentrated on buying shot-stoppers and defenders. They also invested in strikers and attacking midfielders but not as much as they did in defenders.
A notable signing in the Kisumu All-Stars new squad is attacking midfielder Owira John Otieno. The midfielder joins the Blue Eagles from Sweden where he was playing for Dalhem IF.
Other KPL clubs have also been busy during the transfer window as they are not so far off Wazito and All-Stars. Tusker FC and AFC Leopards have made 7 signings each but the former released 8 players at the end of last season.
Defending Champions Gor Mahia have also been busy and have signed 5 new players. K’Ogalo also has a new coach who entered the scene in style winning his first home fixture by 5 goals. KCB, Sofapaka and other clubs have also signed new players.
KPL clubs have been busy signing players during the league break as they hope to strip Gor Mahia of the title. Even Gor Mahia has been busy bolstering its squad to ensure they can successfully defend the title for the third consecutive season.
However, it takes time for most new signings to make a mark in the club as they need time to adapt to the team’s new style of play. In most cases, teams which sign the most players take time before finding it’s rhythm.
There is a high probability this might happen with KPL’s biggest spenders. However, there is also a possibility that the players will click right away.
