Gillette Kenya will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most number of people shaving at the same time at the same place on June 29th 2017 at the Kenyatta University from 11:00 am.

The drive – which targets to beat the 2,374 record set in 2015 in Mexico – is part of Gillette consumer education campaign dubbed “Nyoa Ki-Pro” meant to educate male consumers aged between 15 – 24 years on correct ways of shaving.

The current Guinness World Record was set on 7th March 2015 where 2,374 people shaved at the same time at an event organised by Gillette Procter & Gamble Planta Milenio (Mexico) in Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico. Participants were Planta Milenio’s employees at the Gillette factories in Irapuato and their families. They attempted the record during their annual family day.

On the other hand, Canada holds the record for the most heads shaved simultaneously at 329, which was achieved by the Canadian Cancer Society and the Calgary Fire Department (Canada) at the Fire Training Academy in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on 12 March 2016. This took place at an event to raise money to fight cancer and raise awareness about workplace carcinogens. Over $140,000 was raised.

On top of breaking the world record, Gillette Kenya will be looking to enlighten Kenyans on how to avoid such things as razor burns. Razor burn is similar to a rash – featuring tiny, painful bumps which cause infected pimples and clog the pores on your skin. The result is itchy skin that looks red for several days.

To achieve this, Gillette will educate the public on the use of shaving oil and cream to prepare the skin surface, the best and quality razors for different surfaces, shaving techniques and after-shave practices.

The over a century old company believes that each day, more than 600 million men around the world trust their faces and skin to Gillette razors and shaving products, and will be looking to attract more users in the Kenyan market through the event.

“Gillette has been at the heart of men’s grooming for over 100 years. Each day, more than 600 million men around the world trust their faces and skin to Gillette’s innovative razors and shaving products. Our commitment is giving men the very best in line with personal care and products,” says P&G on their website, the company that manufactures Gillette.
