The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2018 results are set to be released today.

Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed is expected to announce the results at 10.30am at The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) on Dennis Pritt Road.

More than 600,000 students who sat the exams will know their scores with the Cabinet Secretary set to release them moments after meeting President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House Nairobi.

On November 29, The CS had assured Kenyans that the results would be released before Christmas saying by doing so it would allow students to know their results early enough and allow parents prepare their budgets for end year festivities.

“This signals successful completion of KCSE exam. We promise to work very hard to ensure we deliver the results before Christmas,” said Amina while speaking at the Nairobi School.

Last year’s KCSE exam results were released on December 20 one day earlier compared to this year.

It is however unlikely that CS Amina will restore school rankings that were banned during former Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi’s tenure.

Kaimenyi’s move proved to be unpopular with parents, teachers unions and school heads who all called for restoration of the system.

On August 31, 2016 President Uhuru Kenyatta signed a bill that reinstated the ranking.

However two years later, the ministry is yet to formulate laws and the framework that will enable KNEC to rank the schools without the system being infiltrated by cartels which led to the ban in the first place.
