Jumia expects 16 million visits from Kenyans to its online shop during this year’s  Black Friday to secure deals ahead of the shopping season, representing 35% of internet users in Kenya.

The event will run from 8th to 29th November, with the theme, The Biggest Save of the Year, as it is the biggest annual sale, across all products on the website. There will be deals of up to 90% discounts on 10 million products, offered by leading brands such as Nivea, Samsung, Jameson, Hotpoint, Huggies, Unilever, Maybelline, and Uka.

“Our teams have been working hand in hand with vendors to offer our customers the best Black Friday,” says Jumia Kenya CEO, Sam Chappatte.

“We will feature once-in-a-year discounts across 10M products, so there is something for everyone. The biggest deals will be exclusively on the Jumia App – so download it now!”

Customers are encouraged to download the App to benefit from the best deals during the campaign. The share of Jumia’s sales originating from the App has continued to grow – reaching 48% in October 2019 from 30% in January.

Desktop traffic share (from laptops) has dropped to less than 20%, reflecting the popularity of smartphones.

App-only deals will include discount vouchers, flash sales, golden tickets (50K voucher) and exclusive deals like Mbuzi for 1K and motorbikes (boda boda) at Ksh100 bob

Jumia customers will get free 6GB Airtel data, when they purchase smartphones from Jumia’s warehouse (Jumia Express), and up to an additional 10% off when you pay with Airtel Money.

Lower delivery costs

Google estimates that Kenya had 13 million active internet users in 2018. Major campaigns like Black Friday are widely seen to help digitize the economy by enabling customers to log on and save time and money.
