The government has released Ksh2.43 billion to fund the June 2026 cycle of the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programme, injecting additional spending power into households that depend on social-protection support.
The funds, disbursed through the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs, will support payments to 1,213,156 beneficiaries comprising older persons and people living with severe disabilities.
Payments commenced on August 3, 2026, with each beneficiary receiving Ksh2,000 for the June payment cycle, according to the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection.
The latest disbursement represents one of the government’s largest regular social-protection payouts and is expected to boost household consumption, particularly in rural and low-income areas where beneficiaries spend most of the funds on food, healthcare and other essential goods.
Principal Secretary Joseph Motari said the Inua Jamii programme remains a critical pillar of the government’s strategy to cushion vulnerable households from poverty and improve their welfare.
The programme targets citizens aged 70 years and above as well as people living with severe disabilities who require continued financial support.
Economists have often pointed to cash-transfer programmes as an important source of liquidity for local economies because the money is largely spent immediately on basic goods and services, supporting small retailers, health facilities and other community businesses.
The ministry said the programme continues to promote social inclusion and dignity for vulnerable citizens while easing the financial burden on households caring for elderly persons and people with severe disabilities.
