Google teamed up with Kenya’s largest online restaurant platform EatOut to co-host a digital business training workshop for restaurants, as part of their Africa Day celebrations this week. The half-day event which took place at the Metta collaborative workspace at 14 Riverside, saw over 50 restaurateurs from Nairobi’s top and upcoming restaurants.

Speaking at the event, EatOut Founder Mikul Shah explained: “We are committed to providing industry-leading technology products that will help to facilitate business growth for our restaurant partners. This workshop is especially significant in Kenya where approximately 40 million Kenyans are accessing the internet and technology is increasingly playing a big role in our daily lives. It was great to get insights from the ever-changing food-tech industry and review case studies of restaurants that have successfully adopted best practices to help catapult their businesses.”

Geoffrey Gakuya, Business Development Manager at Google, said: “This workshop was a perfect opportunity for us to mark Africa Day and reinforces our goal as a Company, to positively play a role in the growth of businesses in the continent through our various products.”

EatOut’s technology partners DineOut India also showcased the InResto Restaurant management which EatOut is currently piloting at several restaurants in Nairobi.

DineOut founder and business head Ankit Mehrotra commented: “We see that the restaurants In Kenya and Africa are facing similar challenges that restaurants were experiencing in India just a few years ago, and we’re convinced that that technology will revolutionize the landscape. It’s an exciting time!”
