Free Power Bill Payments For Airtel Money Customers

Initiative meant to 'cushion Kenyans during these tough economic times'

Airtel Money has signed a partnership with Kenya Power (KPLC) to enable Kenyans to pay electricity bills at zero transaction fees. Airtel Money Managing Director Anne-Kinuthia Otieno said this is one of Airtel Money’s initiatives to help cushion Kenyans during these tough economic times and will benefit both the postpaid and prepaid Kenya Power customers, for the next six months.

“We are now glad to offer Kenyans this solution where they will enjoy zero transaction cost for the next six months when they make their electricity payments. The cost saving on the charge per transaction will enable customers to utilize their money to other purchases,” Ms Anne-Kinuthia Otieno.

Under the deal, Airtel customers will pay their electricity bills through simple steps by dialing USSD code *334#.

Kenya Power Managing Director & CEO, Dr. (Eng.) Joseph Siror, said this strategic partnership offers customers a seamless payment channel, ensuring enhanced convenience and satisfaction. “We are happy to have Airtel onboard as one of our revenue collection agencies for our postpaid and prepaid customers,” he said.

After six months of free transaction fees, customers will pay their electricity bills at an affordable cost in line with Airtel’s proposition of providing highly affordable services to its customers.

Airtel Money plans to attract more partnerships with strategic stakeholders to offer pocket-friendly and convenient mobile money services to Kenyans.

Other Airtel Money unique benefits include; Sending money between Airtel to Airtel network for free, getting 25% extra airtime or data purchased through Airtel Money and saving up to 40% on withdrawal charges at any Airtel Money agent.
