Former Business Daily reporter Galgallo Fayo has joined Marsabit County government as director of communications. Fayo has been working with the Kitui County government in the same capacity for the last two years.
Galgallo is seen as a big catch for Marsabit Governor Mohamud Ali’s administration ahead of the next general elections, as he brings on board extensive media networks, skills and experience. Mohamud Ali is serving his fist term and is expected to defend the seat in the 2022 elections.
Galgallo, a graduate of journalism, was a prolific journalist at Nation Media Group, where he reported courts for the Business Daily newspaper. He has previously served as Director Communications in Tana River County during the first term of devolution.
Galgallo is said to have transformed media communication for Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu’s flagship programs among them the Kitui textile Centre and housing programs. These projects received accolades from Kenya and beyond.
When he joined Kitui County, he replaced Munyasya Musya, a notable communications professional who left Ngilu’s government after a fallout. Musya had worked for Dr Julius Malombe during his tenure as governor.
Galgallo will now have served three governors since devolved governments were created after the 2013 elections. A good number of journalists have been targeted by county governments as communication directors to tap their media networks and connections.
