Fly748.com has committed Ksh 3 million towards a charity initiative aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable senior citizens, joining a growing number of Kenyan companies using corporate partnerships to tackle social challenges.
The airline will serve as the Diamond Sponsor of the second edition of Run 4 Seniors, a fundraising event organised by Mama Ibado Charity that will take place on July 18 at Karura Forest in Nairobi.
While charity runs have become a familiar feature on Kenya’s calendar, this one focuses on a group that often receives little public attention. Instead of racing for medals or personal bests, participants will be raising money to support elderly people struggling with food insecurity, limited healthcare and social isolation in Kakamega and Isiolo counties.
For Fly748.com, the investment reflects a broader corporate responsibility strategy that extends beyond aviation.
The airline’s Head of Scheduled Services, George Oduor, said supporting senior citizens is an investment in communities that have been shaped by generations of hardworking Kenyans.
“At Fly748.com, we believe strong communities are built on compassion, inclusion and shared responsibility. Our senior citizens have played an important role in shaping our society and deserve to age with dignity, care and support. We are honoured to partner with Mama Ibado Charity in this noble cause and invite Kenyans from all walks of life to join Run 4 Seniors and make every step count,” he said.
Corporate sponsorship has become increasingly important in sustaining community programmes as charities seek long-term partners instead of one-off donations. Mama Ibado Charity says support from businesses enables it to reach more elderly people who continue to face poverty, poor health and neglect.
The organisation’s Director, Ambassador Amina Mohamed, described the airline’s contribution as a timely boost to its programmes.
“We are grateful to Fly748.com for walking this journey with us. This partnership reflects the growing recognition that older persons in our communities need consistent care, dignity and protection. The support will help us expand the reach and impact of Run 4 Seniors, and continue delivering programmes that respond to the realities of seniors facing poverty, neglect and social isolation,” she said.
Money raised from the event will fund the charity’s Seniors Feeding and Healthcare Programmes, which provide monthly food supplies, medical care, medication and community support for elderly people living in vulnerable households.
Fly748.com will also promote the event through its communication channels to encourage more Kenyans to participate. Registered runners travelling for the event will receive a 10 per cent discount on the airline’s tickets, a move expected to attract participants from different parts of the country.
The carrier joins companies including KCB and Sidian Bank in backing this year’s event, highlighting how businesses are increasingly viewing social investment as an essential part of corporate leadership. As preparations gather pace, organisers hope the partnership will translate into more participants, greater public awareness and, ultimately, better living conditions for some of Kenya’s oldest citizens.
