An image shared online claiming to show retired President Uhuru Kenyatta enjoying life in the village after retirement is FALSE.

The image was shared on Facebook on September 29, 2022, by Facebook user Dennis Onsarigo Kiongozi with the caption “Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta enjoying life in the village”.

A fact check by Business Today found the caption to be false, although the image has not been doctored.

According to a reverse image search on Google, the photo was first published online in July 2021 while Uhuru Kenyatta was still serving as the President.

The Photo was taken at Gakoe, Gatundu North, where the President had gone to inspect the China Power Project at Kariminu River.

The other three people featured in the photo were villagers who bumped into the former President, including Eunice Wanjiru and her daughter Esther Nyambura.

The image claiming that former President Uhuru Kenyatta was enjoying life in the village (after retirement) is therefore false.

This fact-check was produced by BUSINESS TODAY with support from Code for Africa’s PesaCheck, African Fact Checking Alliance network and the United Nations Development Programme.
