Social media strategist Dennis Itumbi is racing against to recover his Twitter account after hackers managed to take control of it. Mr Itumbi, who has been nominated by President William Ruto for the position of Cabinet Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy, disclosed the hackers could be related to digital currency.

“Hackers have taken up my twitter account,” he said through a Facebook post. “The hackers are associated with crypto-currency.”

Itumbi, the former journalist who morphed into a digital war machine, admitted he is well invested in Bitcoin, the popular digital currency. “Yes, I own a few Bitcoin,” he said, “I bought them when they were selling at 60k.”

His investment could be in the tens of millions given the current price of Bitcoin is just over Ksh3.5 million. “Google how much one bitcoin exchanges now,” he urged his followers. According to Google, Bitcoin is valued at 3,513,107.29.

Many people consider Bitcoin a good investment due to its potential for growth and long-term value. However, investing in Bitcoin also involves risks, including market volatility and the potential for hacking and fraud, just like what Itumbi is experiencing. It is important to do your research and invest only what you are comfortable with.

But Itumbi seems unfazed by the hackers and some negative publicity around cryptocurrencies. “Do not shy from crypto-currency, even with the challenges that come with it,” he says. “There are promising coins going for 9 bob, research them and buy, you never know.”

He is optimistic he will reclaim his Twitter account, noting that hackers had unsuccessfully tried to take over his email, Instagram and Facebook Accounts. “As for my account it shall be restored shortly,” he noted. “They tried my email, Instagram and FB too, but I got them before they could.”

He said the hacking is a “brutal welcome and a clear message” on cyber security. “For now Hackers 1 – Itumbi 0. In the fullness of time that score will be something else,” he added.
