City tycoon Michael Kamau has taken Nairobi Gorvernor Mike Sonko to court for allegedly leaking a recording of a phone conversation between the two in which the latter was insulting the former.
The dispute between the two has been heating up since December when it started after Muthithi Investments, owned by Kamau, started demolishing plots built on a 20 acre land in Nairobi’s Kayole estate. The firm had earlier obtained a court order to evict the occupants of the plot but Governor Sonko claims Kamau used fake documents to get the court order.
In the leaked private conversation, the Governor had threatened to demolish part of Kamau’s hotel claiming it was built on grabbed land. The businessman claims the leaked phone conversation with a subsequent Facebook post were meant to depict him someone who is violent, corrupt, and has misled the court using fake documents which is a criminal offence under the Penal Code.
“The continued defamation has spread through social media like wild fire to the extent on December 20, 2018, the 1st plaintiff (Mr Kamau’s) name was trending on Twitter following the circulation of the (call recording) video,” says Kamau.
The businessman has reproduced a transcript of the allegedly leaked phone conversation and the Facebook post to be used as evidence in court.
