Retail chain Chandarana Foodplus on Thursday, February 3 opened its 24th outlet along Rhapta Road in Westlands, Nairobi.

The warehouse-style store offers a wide range of food products as well as household items and other general goods. Among those present for the launch was Kenchic Head of Operations Philip Carolan, who highlighted their partnership with the chain as they supply fresh meats for their butchery sections.

Godfrey Musindi, a manager at the store, disclosed that Chandarana’s directors settled on the location due to demand from residents in and around the area. The chain is counting on variety to make it the preferred shopping destination for many who live and work around Westlands.

“What sets us apart is our huge variety as well as our excellent customer care and understanding of customers’ needs,” he noted.

As part of the roll-out, Chandarana is running daily discount offers on various commodities at the store in addition to signing up new customers for their loyalty program.

Chandarana Foodplus has outlets in Nairobi, Kisumu, Eldoret, Nakuru, Nanyuki and Mombasa. The chain has focused on stocking a wide variety of goods as part of its strategy, particularly food products.

It features a large selection of fresh, frozen and grocery related lines as well as sauces and wines.

Chandarana is among players in the retail space who have been pushing to fill the gap left by struggling retail chain Tuskys and the collapsed Nakumatt.

Chains including Majid Al Futtaim-owned Carrefour, Naivas and Quickmart have been rapidly expanding their presence across the country and taking over spaces formerly occupied by the beleaguered chains.
