Betty Kyalo to take over K24 Weekend Edition

Former KTN News anchor Betty Kyalo who is set to premiere at K24 on November 23 is set to headline the station’s Weekend Edition with media watchers keenly waiting to see whether she would draw in audience numbers.

K24 staged a major coup by poaching the popular Kyalo from KTN News where she was the star anchor as it prepares to relaunch in a bid to up its profile and take of rival stations.

With her impending arrival, managers at Mediamax Network are set to repackage K24’s English evening news team with Kyalo set to replace Anjlee Gadhvi, who presently kicks off the Weekend Edition on Friday.

It remains to be seen whether Gadvhi will retain her slot on Saturdays or whether she will be pushed to either Sunday or other week days.

At the moment, Rose Gakuo, who was recently poached from KBC anchors the 9pm prime time news on Monday through Wednesday before Eric Njoka and Karen Karimi Knaust take over on Thursday before making a return on Sunday.

Kyalo will help fill the void left by Richard Kagoe, who joined BBC, and Michelle Morgan, who quit for the second time to pursue personal interests.

Some of her fans were, however, unhappy with her shock decision to quit KTN for K24. Whether she will convince them to cross over remains to be seen.

Media critics says though K24 produces very good news, especially human interest ones, but what it lacks is a presenter with the allure and studio command that Kyalo has.
