An image showing former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson wearing a United Democratic Alliance (UDA)-branded cap and shirt is doctored.

The image shared on Facebook by a user under the name Chris Khaled Junior insinuates that Chebukati is associated with the ruling UDA party.

The image, captioned “What advice would you give Wafula Chebukati as he exits office?”, was shared online on January 16, 2023, at 8.12pm, hours before Chebukati’s tenure at IEBC expired.

Chebukati on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, handed over IEBC’s exit report to President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi.

Business Today conducted a reverse image search on Google, which showed that the original image was uploaded on the internet in 2019. The original image is of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, wearing the ruling African National Congress (ANC) uniform.

The original image, captured by Reuters, showed Ramaphosa waving to his supporters as he arrived for the ANC’s final rally at Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa on May 5, 2019.

The image showing Chebukati donning UDA colours is therefore doctored.
