Kiambu County is the devolved unit with the highest number of intersex citizens, the 2019 Census results show.
The data launched today by Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) Director General Zachary Mwangi Mwangi and received by President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi show that Kenya has a population of 1524 intersex people.
Two hundred and forty-five intersex people are Nairobi County residents, 135 are based in Kiambu while 95 of this section of citizens live in Nakuru.
Tana River has the lowest number of intersex people while Samburu, Taita Taveta and Tharaka Nithi Counties are home to 7 intersex people.
Conversely, the results show that the country has a population of 23.5 males and 24 million.

This is the first year that intersex people data is being integrated in census results and marks a milestone in the computing of census results in Kenya.

The 2019 nationwide census exercise was carried out between August 24- August 31.
