Former Nation Media Group journalist Emmanuel Toili will be among authors exhibiting their books during the World Book Day commemorations in Kenya on 23rd April 2019. The event to celebrate writers, authors and books is organized by One million Mentors Mandate, Marple Book Writers and American Space, a US organization that promotes access to information.

Toili has co-authored a handbook for teaching Biology in secondary schools in developing countries.  The book has been packaged to assist teachers incorporate creative ideas in improving teaching and learning of the subject in any setting.

The other two authors happen to be his family members: his father William Wanjala Toili, and younger sister, Mary Esther Muyoka Toili.

Emmanuel said Biology is one of the key science subjects in the curriculum that offers knowledge, skills and attitudes that can promote the quality of life in developing countries. “The problem,” said Emmanuel, who worked as a sub-editor for Nation Digital, “is that many teachers may not be teaching Biology effectively as a result of a number of factors including lack of teaching and learning resources, political philosophy, culture and level of preparation of teachers.”

He said the book is designed for pre-service and in-service secondary school Biology teachers in developing countries and is useful to diploma, undergraduate and post-graduate students in Biology and Science education.

The World Book Day commemorations will be held in Nairobi at America Space offices on 5th floor of Bazaar Plaza from 2pm. The host of the event will be Tabitha Kihara of Marple Book Writers.
