Kenyan government has signed a $2.08 million grant agreement, which is about Ksh270 million, to strengthen climate resilience in agriculture.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary (CS) John Mbadi says the funding for the Climate Smart Agribusiness Partnerships for Resilience (CSAPR) program is provided by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation through the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

The climate agribusiness deal complements the Integrated Natural Resources Management Programme (INReMP) to support sustainable resource management and improved rural livelihoods

“The initiative will integrate Climate Information Systems into agricultural value chains, enabling farmers and agribusinesses to make informed decisions on production, planning and risk management amid increasingly unpredictable weather patterns,” CS Mbadi says in a post published on X social platform.

Deal was signed during a courtesy call with IFAD’s Country Director, Matteo Marchisio, with CS Mbadi saying the initiative will deepening cooperation. For Marchisio, the latest initiative is a clear support for Kenya’s agricultural transformation.

“This will enable farmers and agribusinesses to access and use climate information to manage climate related risks and improve productivity,” Mbadi says
