Police in Garissa County on Wednesday arrested six ‘high value’ terror suspects and recovered a battery of guns and several rounds of ammunition from them.

Confirming the arrests in an interview with KTN News, North Eastern Regional Commissioner Mohammed Birik said that  the terrorists were travelling in a probox from Somalia which was impounded at a roadblock erected near the Alinjugur Refugee Camp by a multi-agency team of security officers.

The former Kirinyaga County Commissioner said that the suspects are currently being interrogated by DCI detectives and will be arraigned in court in due course.

“We would also like to ask everyone to remain vigilant. It is possible that Al-Shabab might want to commemorate the El-Adde attack by staging another attack,” said the Regional Commissioner.

Birik said that the terrorists were arrested following a tip off from elders in the region.

He however assured Kenyans of their safety saying that different security agencies are on high alert noting that Border Control agents have greatly reduced the threat posed to Kenya by Shabab.

“No efforts will be spared in tracking down those who fund terror related activities. Relatives and friends who fail to tell us the whereabouts of their children who fall prey to radicalisation will also face the full force of the law,” added Mr Birik.
