Sixteen Ambira Boys High School students who were arrested after a video they recorded themselves insulting Cabinet Secretaries Amina Mohammed of Education and Fred Matiang’i of Interior have been freed.

Ukwala Resident Magistrate Gladys Adhiambo released the judges after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) failed to prefer charges against them.

State Prosecutor David Okachi told the court that DPP Noordin Haji had already received the file but will prefer charges against the students once he is satisfied that there is sufficient evidence to charge them.

“The accused persons are hereby released but are to cooperate with police who are still conducting investigating into the matter,” ruled the magistrate.

Shortly after clearing their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), the students in a video went viral on social media, hurled expletives at the two CSs and even confessed to cheating in the exam which had been deemed not to have leaked by CS Amina.
