Weatherman: Beware of heavy rain, flash floods at the Coast

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued an advisory warning Coast residents of heavy rainfall expected on Wednesday October 24 in the region.

In the advisory, the weatherman warns of heavy rainfall of more than 30mm which is expected to intensify to more than 40 mm in 24 hours through to Thursday October 25.

According to the meteorologists, the rain’s intensity will reduce on Friday October 26 to 30 mm but will however be accompanied by heavy winds and large waves.

Counties that will be affected by the rains include Kwale, Kilifi, Mombasa, Tana River and Lamu.

“Residents in the mentioned areas are advised to be on the lookout for flashfloods. People should avoid driving, wading or walking through fast moving waters,” reads the advisory.

The met department also warns that the strong winds may result in a storm surge along the Coast.

“Fishermen and all in the marine industry should be on high alert. Continue listening to local media as updates will be provided if conditions change significantly,” further reads the advisory.
