Twitter has suspended the account of KTN News days after the social media company started purging fake followers from some accounts.

KTN News account was suspended on Sunday due to copyright infringement on sports content that was flagged by the English Premier League.

Twitter suspended the account after it uploaded short videos and photos from the match between Chelsea and Manchester United played on Saturday October 20 at Stamford Bridge, London that ended in a 2-2 draw.

Consequently, the account can’t be accessed. The social media company in its help centre says that it suspends accounts mostly because of four reasons, copyright infringement, spam, abusive behaviour and security.

This is not the first time that Standard Media has been flagged for copyright infringement. In 2011 KTN’s You Tube account was suspended after multiple violations of YouTube’s Copyright Policy.

NTV’s You Tube was also suspended in May 2016 after the streaming service received multiple third party copyright infringement complaints regarding material that they had posted on their channel.

The Premier League generates revenue from broadcast rights which it then splits to teams in the top flight according to their performance in a particular campaign. Regulation of copyright is taken very seriously in the United Kingdom and the United States and KTN News is in the soup for the violation.

Accounts are suspended if they are spammy or just plain fake, as they introduce security risks for Twitter and all of its users which is against twitter rules.

Twitter may also suspend an account if it believes that it has been hacked or compromised. The account is suspended until the California headquartered company can secure it and restore it to the account owner to reduce the effects that malicious activity may cause.

Abusive behaviour may also lead to the suspension of an account. Sending threats to others, impersonating other accounts may lead to temporary or permanent suspension.

However, accounts are sometimes suspended by mistake, and in those cases, twitter works with the person/organisation to ensure that the account is restored.
