Citizen TV anchor Jacque Maribe has lifted the lid on the alleged intrigues of the night Monica Kimani was murdered.

When Maribe and her fiance Joseph “Jowie” Irungu took plea at the High Cout on October 16, the prosecution included crucial details from the statement the Citizen TV journalist recorded at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) which gives her account on what transpired on that night.

Maribe claims that Irungu came to her house at Royal Park Estate in Lang’ata on September 19 crying, telling her how he loved her and removed his clothes.

The journalist says that she was irritated by Irungu’s antics because at the time her child Zahari was fast asleep and she did not want her son woken up by the noises.

By the time she was tucking into bed, she says Irungu came to her room still crying and telling her how he loved her. Maribe says she ignored him.

In a quick turn of events the journalist says that Irungu went into the closet and shot himself. Upon hearing the gunshot she said that she jumped out of bed and went to see what had happened where she found Irungu lying on the floor nursing a gun wound on the left side of his chest.

While still lying down, Irungu repeatedly continued to tell Maribe that he loved her before she ran back into her bedroom to fetch her phone, the journalist narrated.

Maribe said she did not find Irungu lying on the floor when she came back forcing her to peep through the window to see where he had gone.

She saw that he had gone to their neighbour Bryan Kassaine’s residence where Irungu was lying on the ground writhing in pain and blood oozing from his chest.

At the time, Kassaine and his wife Cate were standing next to Irungu.

Relationship

Maribe claims to have met Jowie during her assignments as senior reporter embedded to the ruling Jubilee Party mid-last year. The couple met at a function organised by the political formation at the Bomas of Kenya in the build up to the August 8 general elections.

According to the news presenter, Irungu at the time was former Taita Woman Representative Joyce Lay’s VIP security guard and was as well contracted by a private military firm in Dubai.

In her statement, she says that the pair fell in love and became engaged in June 2018 when Jowie proposed to Maribe.

The journalist further revealed that Irungu lived in Buru Buru Phase III together with two of his friends.
