Homicide detectives investigating the gruesome murder of former Nation Media Group (NMG) employee Monica Kimani are looking for Citizen TV news anchor and senior political reporter Jacque Maribe to record a statement which they say could be key to cracking the case.

Maribe is the fiancée to Joseph Irungu Kuria aka Jowie, who is the central suspect in the murder of Ms. Kimani who was found dead with her throat slit in a bathtub at her house in Lamuria Apartments, Kilimani Estate, Nairobi on the evening of Thursday September 20.

The journalist is being sought in order to corroborate Irungu’s alibi. Jowie claims that he had been with her on the night Monica’s body was found in the bath tub.

Business Today has established that Maribe did not report to work on Wednesday and has not been picking calls.

Irungu was arrested after he filed a report at Lang’ata Police Station stating he was shot on the chest by unknown people on the same day.

He was charged with Monica’s murder on September 26 and is being remanded at Muthaiga Police Station after the prosecution opposed his bail request.

Media reports indicate that Irungu told the police he was shot by a gunman shortly after dropping Maribe at her house in Royal Park Estate in Lang’ata moments after picking her from a club in Kilimani.

According to Irungu they arrived at the estate in the wee hours of Friday morning on September 21 where he spotted three men at the estate’s gate.

Jowie, in his report to the police, claims to have been shot when he came back outside to establish the intentions of the three men shortly after escorting Maribe into the house.

On Thursday, The Standard reported that police say the Toyota Allion Irungu was driving before Monica’s body was discovered dead and when he claims to have been shot is registered in Maribe’s name. The report adds that police have since impounded the car.

Reports also indicate that police say Maribe’s neighbours at Royal Park Estate did not report hearing any gunshots. Police are waiting on a medical report to establish if Irungu’s chest wound was caused by a gunshot as he claims.
